Kids need to build before they can play, so hand to eye co-ordination and construction skills are enhanced. There are plenty of parts in this particular set, which has 406 pieces in total. It’s not a static showpiece, and has working parts that bring the play experience to life.

The most fun feature is undoubtedly the dumping action. Lift the blue bin and dump the contents into the hopper, which opens as the bin is lifted over the top of the truck. It’s tough enough to withstand some good old-fashioned rough and tumble, and an excellent replica of the real thing.

One of the highlights of this garbage gobbler is its size and scale. This truck is considerably bigger than the vehicles from the LEGO City range. When built, it measures 22cm long x 13cm high.

For an idea of size and the build experience you can expect, think of the Technic LEGO sets and you’re on the right track. To get a real idea of the scale of the truck, compare the size of the green insectoid Twitch with the size of the wheels in the picture above. Twitch is the same size as the standard LEGO minifigures, and this is the only set that includes him. Toy Story fans will probably want the set for Twitch alone!
